In recent years, felt – the oldest fabric known to humanity – has found new application in product design, fashion, architecture and home furnishings. The attentions of artists, and innovations in felt production during the 1990s, have triggered a resurgence of interest in the fabric. Published in conjunction with a major exhibition at the Smithsonian's Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Craft & Design, 'Fashioning Felt' presents numerous groundbreaking designs for felt, from haute couture to cinema architecture, plus essays and comment on the material's important history in the field of design and manufacture.
